Periodontal Evaluation
Statistics from The American Dental Association indicate that as many as three out of every four people have some form of an infection known as periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease has been linked to heart problems, diabetes, premature births, and several other health problems. The earlier the diagnosis, the better the treatment options for periodontal disease. Caught in its incipient stage treatment may be simple and predictable.
Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease usually begins as an infection of the gums which progresses to the bone. It is the leading cause of tooth loss in the US.
Some statistics indicate that as many as 3 out of 4 adults are affected by some form of this disease. Other studies indicate that it may be contagious. In married couples if one spouse has it in over 80% of the cases their partner does as well. Factors that affect periodontal diseases include genetics, diabetes, smoking habits, oral hygiene habits, (ineffective brushing or not flossing) and, infrequent visits for professional teeth cleanings.

At your initial consultation, a detailed periodontal charting is created to assist Dr. Brueggen and his associates in determining the health of your gums. After reviewing your X-rays and charting, one of the doctors will recommend a course of treatment and determine the frequency of visits based on your individual needs.
