Partial Dentures
Dentures are removable appliances replacing a few or all of the teeth. Dentures are usually composed of a pink plastic base which may be strengthened with metal and porcelain or plastic teeth.
Most people complain of dentures for a number of reasons:
- Dentures move when eating causing food to get
under them.
- Dentures occasionally and unpredictably come loose when speaking or eating causing embarrassment.
- Movement of the dentures causes denture sores that are similar to a blister caused by ill fitting shoes.
- Upper denture can cause gagging do to the palatal portion in the roof of the mouth.
- Upper dentures may cause ones speech to be effected
by impinging
on tongue space.
- Denture bases may cause the face to seem “puffy”
and unnatural.
- Normal foods cannot be eaten comfortably and covering the oral tissues with denture acrylic adversely
affects taste.
At Wayne Brueggen DDS we find that most of these problems can be routinely solved. In some cases corrections can be made with the existing appliances. For others, new appliances may be necessary. In some cases implants may be the answer.
Whatever the final solution, we find that the quality of most peoples lives, who are living with the crippling effects of dentures, can be dramatically improved. Our senior citizens, our mothers, fathers and grandparents deserve more than anyone the finest quality of life we can give them.
