Questions and Answers
Q. What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that replaces the original root of a tooth that may have been damaged or lost to various dental conditions. Because the implant is surgically anchored to the jaw and the replacement tooth or bridge is permanently attached to the implant, the new tooth or bridge does not rely on neighboring teeth for support. Implants may also be used to secure removable teeth so you are able to chew comfortably and smile with confidence. Implants look and feel like natural teeth.
Q. I would like to have braces but at my age I really don’t want to wear braces. What options do I have that would allow me to straighten my teeth without braces?
At WAYNE BRUEGGEN, DDS, we recommend Invisalign® the invisible alternative to braces. Invisalign® uses a series of clear aligners that gently nudge your teeth into position over a series of 9-15 months. If you want a very rapid solution and the front teeth are your primary concern then consider dental porcelain veneers. In only 2 visits you can have an awesome smile. Call us today at 281- 879-1786 for your complimentary Invisalign® consultation.
Q. I visit my dentist regularly, drink tea and coffee in moderation and avoid foods that might stain or discolor my teeth and I still cannot get my teeth to look their whitest. What would you recommend?
Some people are born with naturally discolored teeth while most patients could attribute
their discoloration to years of drinking and eating foods that result in harsh staining of the outer surfaces of the teeth. In one visit and in just over one hour the BriteSmile® teeth whitening system can dramatically improve the color and sparkle of faded or discolored teeth. Teeth that won’t respond to even the most advanced tooth whitening systems can be veneered for the ultimate in color correction.
Q. Why do wisdom teeth cause such a problem?
Wisdom teeth cause problems because the shape of the modern human mouth may be too small to
accommodate them. As a result, they become impacted or unable to "come in" or move into their proper position. When wisdom teeth are prevented from surfacing into the mouth properly, they are referred to as impacted. Teeth that have not surfaced are not necessarily impacted. It may be that it is still too early in someone's dental development and as they mature they may erupt naturally.
Other wisdom teeth may force their way in but cause other teeth, especially the lower front ones, to overlap and become crooked. Once overlapping has
has begun it usually progresses throughout life. Even others may appear to be completely erupted but because of their position they may contribute to periodontal disease or Tempromandibular Joint Dysfunction (T.M.J) Dr. Brueggen will examine your mouth and x-rays to determine the condition of your wisdom teeth.
Q. Because of my work schedule, it is difficult for me to schedule appointments during regular business hours. Do you offer after hour’s appointments?
We understand that some of our patients need the flexibility of after hours appointments. After hours appointments may be scheduled on Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00pm. This is just another way we are working to accommodate the special needs of our patients.
Q. I do not have dental insurance. Can I afford your quality dental services?
In our office we believe the more restricted a patient’s budget the more important quality care becomes. The cost of replacement, repair and failure greatly exceeds the cost of doing it well to begin with. When cost is a dominating factor the solution should be prioritizing and staging the work, not choosing cheap or inadequate solutions.
Financing options should also be considered. For our senior citizens that do not have dental insurance we offer a reduced fee dental plan. This plan can help you afford the services you require. There are also flexible payment options to help you stay within your budget. Some payment options allow up to 6 months to pay with no interest. For more information about payment options call Dr. Brueggen's office at (281) 879-1786 and ask for one of of our financial counselors.
Q. I am concerned about the privacy of my dental records. What is your policy?
A. Patient dental records are not shared with anyone not associated with our practice. Records may only be obtained with the written consent of patients and only after consultation with a member of our professional staff.
